  1. Clean heat exchanger and inspect for combustion leaks.
Heat Exchanger will be inspected for cracks and deterioration.
Heat exchangers can develop cracks with age. If they exist, there is a risk of serious illness from the toxic fumes emitted.
  2. Test for carbon monoxide.
Carbon monoxide is a dangerous odorless gas.
Tests are performed to determine if any level of carbon monoxide being released from the system. This airborne contaminant can have deadly results.
  3. Clean burners and adjust for maximum efficiency.
    Burners cleaned.
Dirty burners can cause poor combustion. You pay for useful heat that “goes up the stack”.
  4. Clean pilot assembly and inspect thermocouple.
    Thermocouple inspected.
A defective thermocouple will cause the furnace to shut down.
  5. Inspect flame sensor.
Gas Line will be leak checked from the furnace shut off valve to the burners.
    Undetected gas leaks are dangerous.
  6. Examine flue and inspect venting system.
    Flue Pipe inspected.
Flue Pipe corrosion or leaks are dangerous.
  7. Verify proper inducer motor operation.
Fan Switch checked and adjusted as needed.
A fan switch that is not properly adjusted can waste energy or cause nuisance fan cycling.
  8. Verify proper ignition.
Pilot checked and adjusted as necessary.
Weak or dirty pilots can easily be extinguished causing the furnace to shut down.
  9. Inspect gas piping and valve.
    Combustion Air openings checked.
Blocked or restricted combustion air openings can be dangerous.
  10. Flush condensate drain to protect against overflow.
    Drains will be inspected.
Overflowing drains can cause problems for overall system operation.
  11. Inspect blower assembly operation, lubricate and adjust as necessary.
Blower Wheel inspected and motor lubricated as required.
Motor will last longer and the temperature will be more comfortable.
  12. Evaluate condition of air filters and other indoor air quality accessories.
Air filter and other Indoor Air Quality Accessories evaluated.
Dirty air filters can increase operating costs.
  13. Safety test all controls for proper operation.
    Safety Controls checked.
Safety controls that do not operate can cause dangerous problems.
  14. Calibrate thermostat and confirm proper operation.
Thermostat checked and calibrated as required.
Defective or improperly calibrated thermostats affect comfort and operating costs.
  15. Evaluate the overall efficiency of the system and inform customer of equipment condition.
Temperatures and Performance will be recorded.
An accurate record of vital data can indicate potential problems, which can be eliminated.
    All Panels secured.
Loose panels can increase operating costs and cause a dangerous condition.
  16. Additional Heat Pump Procedures
  17. Inspect and test heater elements.
Auxiliary Heat Strips will be checked.
Heat strips that are not operating properly can cause a loss of heat or increase electric cost higher than necessary.
  18. Inspect and test reversing valve.
    Reversing Valve checked.
A reversing valve that is not operating properly can waste energy and cause a loss of heat.
  19. Inspect and test defrost system.
    Defrost Timer checked.
A defrost timer that is not working properly can cause a loss of heat and can shorten the compressor’s life.
